In a Populi Course
The first time you attempt to launch Turnitin from Populi, you will be prompted to log in to your Turnitin account and create a dummy assignment. This one-time process with bind the LTI deployment to your Turnitin account so that future launches will be seamless. This Turnitin article describes creating the dummy assignment.
Here's what you'll do in Populi:
- Go to Assignments and click Add assignment.
- Select Add LTI assignment.
- Select your Turnitin Tool from the dropdown, choose Create via LTI Launch, and click Launch Tool.
- This will launch Turnitin (according to your selection in the Launch tool... setting). Configure the Turnitin assignment settings as desired and click Submit.
- Back in Populi, add the remaining assignment details. The Name, Description, Points, and Availability settings will be populated automatically from Turnitin. Avoid editing the URL or any of the Custom Parameters since this will likely break the link.
(You can also add assignments when designing a Lesson using the LTI Link option.)
The assignment is now ready for submissions. Students can now follow the link on the Populi assignment page to Turnitin where they can submit the assignment. When you click the same link as the course instructor, you will see the instructor view with the student roster displayed along with submission and grade details. Submission dates and assignment grades will be populated back into Populi as soon as they are updated in Turnitin.
