July 31 to August 4, 2023 Release Notes

Features & Improvements

Added a new thing to My Settings > General that dictates whether or not the Send me a copy box is checked by default in the email compose window. It's a truly exquisite bit of American English, somewhere between Mark Twain and Cormac McCarthy. It is reproduced here in full:

Send me copies of my sent email by default

Select "Yes" to receive copies of your sent email by default.

A couple things for passwords:

  • When you set or re-set a password, we now check it against a public database of commonly hacked passwords. If your password is the same as any of those, we make you try again until it passes the Not easily hacked test.
  • Password fields all have "unmask" buttons so you can take a gander at your exquisite, secure password as you type it.

Freed the Refund Policy text setting from the confines of Bookstore and put it where it belongs: in Financial > Settings > Online Payments.

You can now filter the Organizations report by membership count.

Federal financial aid requirements enjoin students to have to accept all their subsidized loans before accepting any unsubsidized; Populi now restricts what they can accept unless they do so in the Federally-mandated order.

Bugfixes

Found and fixed a bug that went as follows: If a payer paused his recurring payment/donation and a financial staff member subsequently told it to resume, Populi would send an email saying that it had been resumed but then another saying it had been paused—because it actually didn't resume the recurring payment/donation.

Videos and Focus Sessions

This week's Focus Sessions were described last week. Next week's Focus Sessions are described this week. Next week we'll talk about the following week's Focus Sessions.

  • Introduction to Academics: Next week's session will get into academic years, terms, programs, degrees, the course catalog, course instances, enrollment, and so on. This will be most useful to Registrar and Academic Admin users. It's scheduled for August 8th, 2023, 11:00 AM Pacific time.
  • Introduction to Admissions: Tune in next week to hear about application settings, designing your application, processing applications, managing leads and so on. This will be most useful to Admissions and Admissions Admin users. It's scheduled for August 10th, 2023, 11:00 AM Pacific time.

The video guys took it easy this week and watched YouTube instead of uploading stuff to it were so busy working on multiple things that no new video came into existence. So here's an older video that might be of some use this time of year as you work on course registration: Troubleshooting Registration Visibility.
