Organizations

Organizations are the schools, businesses, and other entities with which your school has some association.

  • An organization might be a business, school, church, non-profit, governmental entity, or other.
  • People can be linked to organizations as members. You can include orgs or members in mailing lists and other communications.
  • You can accept donations from organizations and list them as payment sponsors for member students.

Adding new organizations

New organizations are added to your system a few ways:

  • An organization can make a donation to your school. If it's not already in your system, you can use the donation details to create the new organization.
  • When a student applies to have transfer courses accepted at your school, you can add the transfer institution as a new organization (with the type of College).
    • If you enter a CEEB code for a high school in Profile > Admissions > Lead Info, that school will be added as an organization.
  • You can import organizations in bulk from a spreadsheet or CSV file.
  • You can add one manually.

To add a new organization...

  1. Go to Contacts > Organizations.
  2. Click Add new Organization.
  3. Give the organization a name—at minimum, it needs a name!
  4. Fill in the other details—contact info, profile image, and tags.
  5. When you're ready, click Add Organization.

After adding the organization, you'll be taken straight to its Activity Feed.

To import organizations from a spreadsheet or CSV file...

  1. First, have a look at this article about importing people to learn about how to structure your file, map columns, and handle duplicates. Everything there is pertinent to importing organizations.
  2. In Contacts > Organizations, click Import Organizations.
  3. Upload the file; when it's finished, it will take you straight to the column mapping interface. Proceed from there.

Stuff you can do with organizations

If you're at all familiar with personal profiles, then you already have the hang of what you can do with an organization's profile.

  • Contacts > Organizations lets you sort and filter your school's orgs and perform various actions—tag/untag, set custom fields, and export CSV/XLS for the orgs or members.
  • The Activity Feed includes communications both with the organization and its members. Otherwise, it works much the same as the activity feed on a person's profile.
  • The feed is also where you can view and update contact information and any custom organization fields you have (under Other Info).
  • Members shows everyone in your system linked in some way to the organization. Here's how to add a member:
    1. Click Add Member.
    2. Type a name to search for the person.
    3. Select how the person is related to the org—as a student (for schools), member, or via employment.
    4. Enter a title, if any, and a timeframe for the member's involvement in the org.
    5. Check if you want to make the organization a payment sponsor for this member.
    6. Click Save.
  • The Donations view works just like it does on a person's Profile > Financial > Donations view.
  • Should you need to delete an organization, click and select Delete... Doing so will not affect any of the organization's members.
