How to receive text notifications from your school

Text messaging in Populi only works with phone numbers from the United States and Canada. If your phone number is not from either of those two countries, you will not be able to receive or respond to texts sent from Populi.

Your school can use Populi to send you notifications via text message and email. To receive these notifications, you need to have a verified text notification number and email address. Of these two, the more important is the text notification number, which your school may use to send emergency notifications.

Verification simply means that you tell Populi that a mobile number is really yours: Populi sends you a code and you enter that code in Populi to prove that you got it. Populi can then "trust" that number and use it for text notifications.

There are a few ways to verify a phone number for texting:

• The first time you log in, you'll be asked to enter a mobile number as part of the login process. This will send a verification code to your mobile phone, and you can complete the verification process as part of your first login.
• When you log in to Populi, a yellow banner will offer to let you set one up right then and there. Just enter your number, submit the verification code when it arrives, and you're good to go.
  
• In your notifications center, you can enter a mobile number and proceed with verifying it. This article covers that method.

Step one: go to your notifications center

1. Click the icon in the upper right of the screen.
2. At the top of the notifications window, click .
3. Select Notification Settings.

Step two: enter notification information

In your Notifications Center > General view, you can enter either a mobile number, an email address, or both. After entering that info, click Send Verification Code.

Step three: enter verification codes

After entering notification information, you'll need to enter verification codes to finish the setup.

Within a few minutes (or seconds), you'll receive a text message with your six-digit verification code and/or an email with a verification link.

• Text: Enter the text verification code and click Submit Verification Code.
• Email: When you receive the email, click the link to verify your address.

You can see your verified contact info on My Profile > Info; it's marked by a cute lil' badge .

Stopping or changing notification info

After verifying your notification information, you'll be all set up. You can go back to your Notifications Center at any time to:

• Stop receiving text notifications at that mobile number.
• Change or remove your email notification address.
• If you no longer use an old texting number, you can request that someone at your school send you a reset text number email.
• You can also stop receiving text notifications by replying to any text message from your school with "STOP".
