If you set up online payments through Populi, your can accept payments for tuition, fees, books, applications, and donations via credit card and electronic check/ACH. Populi works with Stripe, which is a complete payment gateway solution, and Authorize.net, which is a payment gateway that can connect Populi to your existing credit card merchant account.
Stripe serves as both merchant account and payment gateway. It takes around five minutes to set up a new Stripe account and connect it with Populi. Its pricing is better than just about anything out there—and it has no setup, monthly, or card storage fees. All things considered, we think Stripe is the best option for our customers.
Authorize.net provides payment gateway accounts (as well as merchant accounts and other services). Their payment gateway works with almost every merchant account out there (including Chase Paymentech). If you have an existing merchant account or wish to start a new one, then you can use Authorize.net to connect it to Populi.
The chief advantage of Authorize.net is its ability to work with other merchant accounts. That said, account setup/approval can take several weeks. It incurs numerous setup fees and other monthly minimum charges. Your transaction rate may vary from one month to the next; that rate, combined with the rate charged by your merchant account, is considerably higher than Stripe's.
Start by going to Financial > Settings > Online Payments. After filling in those settings, you'll go to Settings > Payment Gateways to set up your Stripe account or connect your Authorize.net account to Populi.
