Custom Locks have been released!

We just released Custom Locks. A few things to get you oriented to how Locks work now:

Locks used to be added in various places on the Profile. For example: to add a Financial Lock, you'd go to Profile > Financial.

Now all locks for individual students are added from the leftmost column on the Profile under the photo:

After you add the lock, it will list right in that same spot. To edit or remove a lock, just click the lock name according to the instructions in the Locks article.

If you have any questions, you know how to get a hold of us!

This is great. What happened to the Financial Lock notification ribbon on the Financial Dashboard of the student's account? I can see on the side there is a lock but it is helpful to have the ribbon on the Financial Dashboard as well.

Rebecca Parkos Previously all the lock types were baked in to Populi in such a way that they lived in certain places. With the new system, a lock type can be called whatever you want and can lock whatever areas you want. The old Financial lock locked a number of things in a number of places, but just happened to show up as a banner on the Financial tab because that's how it was built. The new system shows the banner whenever something you're looking at is being affected by a lock, and tells you what lock or locks are responsible. So, now, if your Financial lock locks grades, for example, you'll see a banner stating grades are locked by the Financial lock wherever the grades are being locked, but you won't see something like "This student has a Financial lock" outside of the far left column because there's no way for Populi to know if that would make any sense with the new system. Does that make sense?

I understand. However, as the Accounts Receivable manager I don't to look at where the locks affect. The lock notification on the student's financial dashboard was a great quick visual that the student is locked and the reason why. Not having it here will add a few steps to my processes...

Rebecca Parkos Well, it'll still show sup on the left regardless of what tab you're on, so if you're on someone's profile you should be able to see that it's in place. It looks like you have permissions to the Data Slicer, so you can actually just filter all students by if they have a Financial Lock or not, and see everyone in one list without even having to check their profiles.

In any event, I'd be interested to hear more about your use case so we can give it some more thought.

I like the added feature of the Internal Note.

How can I get a report of individuals with Locks that also includes the Lock Reason and The Internal Note? This would be extremely helpful so I don't have to go back to each student to view the reason for the lock or to see whose locks need to be removed because they paid their balance.

Sara Krosschell There isn't a report like that right now, but that sounds useful.

I feel like I used to be able to use locks in the Tag filter in Data Slicer. I don't have a good way to search for them now.

Christopher Sumpter The tags for student locks have gone the way of the dodo. You can now search for locks in the Data Slicer by "Lock Type".
