Back in December of 2022, Populi released a modern API for integrating with other systems and software. This API uses contemporary REST practices and JSON formatting and includes extensive documentation and example code. At that time, we also announced that we would be deprecating our old XML-based API (first released in 2010). We have given this “Legacy API” security updates, but have otherwise ceased new development on it.
On August 1, 2026, we will sunset the legacy API: it will be switched off and will no longer be operational. Any integrations using the old API will not work after that point.
While the vast majority of Populi schools are now using the new API, a handful still use the old one or at least have applications that still talk to it. If your school is in this number, we will be contacting your Populi Account Adminstrators about this directly.
This change will not affect any of Populi’s built-in integrations, Zapier integrations, SSO features, and LTI features; these are all remaining as-is.
