August 4 to August 8, 2025 Release Notes

Features & Improvements

You might've noticed that the entire Populi interface got a freshening-up. Fonts, icons, layout, some general cleanup, and all of it more accessible for all our users.

If you like exporting student financial statements in bulk, you can now do so from both views of the Student Balances report.

You can now get an automation based on when a meal or room plan was added, changed, or deleted; there's also a new trigger for when an enrollment agreement needs to be signed.

Speaking of enrollment agreements, they have a new variable for Emergency Contact.

Financial Aid application components now do a competent job with URLs: they're clickable and they wrap within the dialog (they used to just hurl themselves off the side of the screen and, presumably, all the way into the sun).

If you have multiple PayFactory payment gateways, we now let you use them in Populi.

Updated the setting descriptions (to make them more... descriptive) for the Enable Self-Checkout and PIN in Library > Settings.

Also in Library, resources with an ISBN have a new Sync with LOC button. It fetches various data fields from the Library of Congress and lets you check off the ones you'd like to use to update the resource's fields.

Profile > Registration was showing retired campuses in the drop-down. Now it only shows campuses that have courses for the selected term.

In Accounts > Integrations, there's a new Canvas Import History viewer that primarily exists to help us and you make sense of sync errors with Canvas.

Updated FISAP for 2024-25. Auto Zero EFC has been replaced by the Max Pell Indicator. If you're in Financial Aid, I presume you know what I'm talking about (I don't).

Bugfixes

If you were importing a person and had only part of their address, the imported address wouldn't map onto the correct address fields. Now it/they does/do.

Enrollment Agreements were including room plans that had been deleted from student accounts.

The Canvas sync tool was just totally losing its cool whenever it tried to sync enrollment records for a deleted student. We made it stop trying to do that 'cos, really, who needs deleted students to be synced?

We broke something with Payment Plan-based recurring payments recently, but we fixed it.

A lil' permissions issue was preventing Admissions Admins from getting notifications about application fee payments.

Fixed some rounding issues with Term Quality Points. They're all nice and round now.

Found a bug with our multi-currency setup where the transaction amount is recorded wrong if the exchange rate favors the US dollar.

The very popular format_all_term_student_fields thing in the transcript renderer was changed to handle multiple file-type fields differently since they return multiple values. What this means, somehow, is that printing Enrollment Verification letters was broken.

So, uh, blank inputs weren’t getting skipped when adding new library locations, which apparently caused all kinds of problems. These bugfixes are getting more and more incomprehensible.

Videos and Focus Sessions

Next week is starting to come into focus...

  • Introduction to Degree Audit: Peer deep into the soul of degree requirements, course groups, course mapping, exceptions, transcripts and so on. This will be most useful to Academic Admin and Registrar users. It's scheduled for August 12th, 2025, 11:00 AM Pacific time.
  • Introduction to Financial Aid: Zoom into financial aid settings, awards, packaging aid, disbursements, aid applications and so on. This will be most useful to Financial Aid and Financial Admin users. It's scheduled for August 14th, 2025, 11:00 AM Pacific time.

Populi does a lot of things, including helping you undo past mistakes (that you made with Populi, not, like, in your life). Here with one example, Josh tells you about how to unapply payments from invoices.
