Features & Improvements
Test Integrity is more betterer now:
- Closed a loophole where students could get off WiFi, take the test and cheat their brains out, and then get back on and submit the test. Now an internal log keeps rolling the whole time and is included in the integrity record.
- The log now records when a student was disconnected from the web.
- "Text entered rapidly" is the new log entry for when any kind of text is entered way faster than human typing speed.
- Questions on To Be Graded with logged incidents have an icon/link to the integrity log.
- Cleaned and decluttered the integrity log's appearance (even while adding new stuff to it... dang, we're good!).
Some vague and unspecified improvements were made to the Canvas sync tool that had to do with skipping bad Canvas records and providing more details about Canvas-related errors.
The API is now "smarter about parsing JSON errors," which is a fancy way of saying that it's, uh, better at it now?
That very same API can now export Campus Life reports. Apparently this can enable "advanced filtering". Sounds cool!
If a to-do is attached to a person (e.g. "Send graduation survey to student" Re: Sam Smallguy), we now include the name in various to-do notifications.
Using advanced diagnostic techniques, the Room Plan dropdown order has been precision calibrated to stick retired plans at the end of the list.
Importing courses from another term? Now we warn you if you try proceeding without selecting a course, and a duplicate course data selection was removed.
Bugfixes
Programs marked Hidden from students were showing as selectable on Inquiry forms. Technically, an inquiry isn't necessarily a student yet, so we weren't actually in the wrong here. But I guess there's a deeper principle at play, and inquirers can't select those programs any more.
If you wanted to delete a file attached to a test question, well, you couldn't for awhile.
Speaking of deleted, if you deleted an advisor's profile, he'd still be listed as the advisor for his advised students.
Still speaking of deleted, if you deleted the Student role from someone who also had the Faculty role, their student courses would appear alongside their faculty courses rather than being vaporized like they are now.
Continuing on with the deleted thing, recalculating term charges for a student would exhume charges for deleted meal plans.
There was some vague BigBlueButton error that we fixed.
When merging profiles, if the loser had a signed enrollment agreement, that would not get merged onto the winner's profile. Until now. Or, rather, until a few days ago when we fixed this.
Videos and Focus Sessions
Soon we'll all be referring to what is now "next week" as "this week":
- Introduction to Populi: Next Tuesday is coming fast. Spend an hour of it learning about setting up your Populi account, logging in, adding new users, login approvals, roles, search, basic reporting, Populi's global settings and so on. This will be most useful to Populi Account Administrator and Academic Admin users. It's scheduled for August 19th, 2025, 11:00 AM Pacific time.
- Introduction to Academics: When next Thursday is being spoken of as "today," it'll be time to learn about academic years, terms, programs, degrees, the course catalog, course instances, enrollment and so on. This will be most useful to Registrar and Academic Admin users. It's scheduled for August 21st, 2025, 11:00 AM Pacific time.
