Publishing the Course Catalog and Term Schedule

In this article, you'll learn how to publish your course catalog and course schedule for use on your school's website so that people without access to Populi can view these items.

What your users see

Before we get going, a few words on what your users can see when they go looking for the course catalog and schedule when logged in to Populi.

  • Academic Admins & Registrars: These users have full access to the Course Catalog—they can add, edit, retire, and delete courses (and everything in between). Via Academics > Academic Term > Schedule, they can view the course schedule for any term (and, of course, they build it when they add course meeting times).
  • Academic Auditor: These users can view but not edit these items.
  • Faculty & Students: These users can view basic details for all courses with a status of Active in Courses > Course Catalog. They can see their own course schedules on their Profile > Schedule view.
  • Staff & other users: Without an academics-related role (the ones mentioned above), these users have no access to the course catalog or schedule.

Academic Settings

To publish your catalog and schedule, head to Academics > Settings > General.

  • The two settings you're looking for are labeled Enable Public Term Schedules and Enable Public Course Catalog. Select Yes to get started.
  • Term Schedules opens up a couple new settings. You can select the terms you wish to publish and enter custom CSS to alter the admittedly-vanilla default appearance of the schedule. You'll also be able to grab the iframe code you can add to your website.
  • Course Catalog opens up a custom CSS setting and the iframe code you'll use on your website.
  • Enabling either option adds the course catalog settings mentioned below.

Course Catalog

After enabling one or both of the Public... settings mentioned above, your catalog courses will have new settings. Public Schedule and Public Catalog both default to Show; edit the setting if you wish to Hide that course from the public schedule or catalog.
