Alerts from future semesters' courses

I've noticed that if a course is cloned from one semester to another, and the instructor doesn't update the release/due dates on assignments at that point, as soon as a student enrolls, they'll get alerts that that course has alerts - _but_, if the course is closed for students, they can't get to those alerts. It would potentially be nice if alerts didn't surface for courses that were closed to students (unless there's some reason I'm missing why they'd be necessary, which is always possible :))
