We have a handful of students who have balances from previous semesters that we are still allowing to attend in the current semester because they are making payments on their account. I have placed a financial lock on their account so that they can't get a transcript or register for classes without administrator approval but this unfortunately blocks their ability to see their current grades. It would be nice if we could put a financial lock on students' accounts that prevents them from registering and getting an "official" transcript but still allows them to see their current semester grades.

Brendan O'Donnell Official comment We've since made Locks a lot more flexible and customizable, and the setting mentioned below no longer exists. Read about Locks in this article.

Jonathan White Yes, we are in the same position. I would like students to still be able to see their grades just not get a transcript or register.

Douglas Lewis Agreed. I believe that our province's law says we cannot cut off students' access to their grades. This means that, technically, we violate the law when we put financial locks on students accounts. We get around it by mailing screen shots to them upon request. Hardly best practice.

Jonathan White I really hope we can make this change sometime. It would be nice for our students to see their grades. It doesn't seem like it would be hard to make an option where you decide what a financial lock does for your school.

Christian Amos A new setting called "Hide grades with Financial Lock" has been added under Financial > Settings > General. The new setting will let you control whether or not a Financial Lock will hide grades from students.

Corine Danchik Hi, If we do not use the financial part of Populi, how can I change the settings the Christian Amos is referring to?

Adam Sentz @Corine - Please open a support request and a rep can walk you through it.

Benji Swafford Agreed - it would be great if we could decide what a financial lock does beyond the option to hide grades.
