Add choice to transfer course as an Open Elective

Currently when entering a transfer credit it must be designated as equivalent to a particular required course or course group ("Applies To"). This doesn't work for open electives. Please add the option to transfer a course simply for its credit value (so that it would go into the "unused courses" section of the degree audit).

(The only work around right now is to apply the transfer course to a course group that's not actually used in the degree--but then the course doesn't appear at all in the degree audit.)

  Thomas Winger - Typically folks will add an Open Electives (or whatever they call it) group for this sort of thing. Is there a reason that won't work for you?

  I guess because it seems like a lot of extra work. You need to add every available course to the group, while omitting required courses. And then whenever new courses are added or the required courses change, you need to modify the Open Electives group as well. It seems like a lot of work when the idea of open electives is relatively simple: any course that's not required. But certainly I can give that a try for now.

  We simply have an "Open Elective" course for this that we apply these transfers to. Or does that not solve your problem?

  A follow-up question (no longer about transfer, but about the "Open Electives" group). I've tried this out, but am having one problem. There is an option to restrict courses to apply to only one course group at a time (with the manual tick box to decide where it goes). I've done this, and it works within the degree area on a student's degree audit.

  But it seems that this restriction doesn't apply between the degree itself and specialisations. That is, if a student needs a course for a specialisation requirement (second image), it's still showing up in the "Open/free electives" group under the degree (first image), even though it shouldn't be applicable to that group any more. See the attached screen shots. Is there a way to avoid this?
