Filing in the Activity Feed vs. Student Information

Summary: Activity Feed is too limited for our filing needs. The multi-upload feature in the Student Information tab/area is much more useful, but it takes too many clicks to get to. If the default main page for users with a Student tab is still the Activity Feed, then it would make more sense for those with Academic Advisor or Staff permissions and above to be taken to the Student tab first instead of the Activity Feed. So, either the solution is to change the aforementioned default page or improve the existing filing options within the Activity Feed.

My coworkers have always used the Activity Feed for quick and easy filing. However, I noticed that this system creates an unnecessarily difficult auditing and record keeping process.

As a Staff user, the Activity Feed is the first thing you see when clicking on any profile, but more specifically for users with the Student tab. Most of our staff need to see the Student Tab instead of the Activity Feed. More recently, I've encouraged my fellow coworkers to utilize the Student Information area and upload all student files there. This is because unlike the Activity Feed, this new file upload area can be found through the Data Slicer, which creates an easy way for us to audit student files and access them without making hundreds of individual clicks to do the same thing. Of course, there are a lot of other benefits with this new method such as uploading multiple files at once, immediate access to the files without the need for filtering, etc.

The problem is in how many clicks it takes to get to this feature, and how the Activity Feed is the first thing that we see, so it promotes the usage of a feature that isn't very useful for us outside of burying the files in the feed.

My proposed solution is to either give us a better Activity Feed where filing there is a viable solution, or allow users with Staff roles to immediately view the Student tab when opening any user profile with it. If the first option is easier, then we would need options to add filters as in the Student Info area where we can create categories for each upload. This would fit in easily with the current filtering options that already exist in the Activity Feed.
