It would be great if there was a feature whereby we could reserve seats for a specified group of students (e.g. entrance term, standing, specialization, etc.). Right now we have to manually set seats aside for our incoming students, setting our enrollment caps lower than what they really are during continuing student registration, then once registration is closed we turn the waitlists to manual, readjust the max enrollment to the real cap, add the incoming students, and then turn the waitlists back to automatic.
If Populi had a seat reservation function, we could just set those seats aside, register the incoming students and then release any remaining seats to continuing students on the waitlist. I could imagine this might be useful to other schools who want to set aside seats for students in certain majors, or do a tiered online registration process where there were specific numbers of seats set aside for freshmen, sophomores, juniors, etc.
