It would be nice if at least one person at our College could see a Master Change Log that would show who has been doing what with the data in the system. At this point, there is no way to know if a person is doing something they shouldn't unless we look at a specific course or profile. Since the permissions are not as specific as I would like, I am a bit nervous about all the ways someone COULD cause problems, whether by accident or on purpose.

Shannon Kropf We have found the Change Log incredibly helpful in tracking down problems or in troubleshooting situations where something has gone wrong. We also use it as a teaching tool, educating the person who made the mistake so that it's not repeated in the future. I'd like to see this feature return.

Brendan O'Donnell The Activity Feed shows the Change Log. Click the drop-down where you can choose to see Notes, Emails, etc. At the bottom of that list is the Change Log.

Joel Wingo I would still like to see a quick overview of all the changes that have been made, without having to look at the Activity Feed of each user. It would be especially helpful during the transition period where all the staff users are getting used to Populi.

Adam Sentz Which data, in particular, are you concerned about? What sort of potential problems do you foresee?

Shane Flynn For myself, I would like the ability to see what changes a specific user has made. This would be helpful in the event of a malicious user gaining access to Populi, we could see all the changes that person has made instead of having to pull up every student/course/instance/etc and check the log.

Jeremiah Miller I'll chime in and second this request! Adam, to answer your question, it's not any specific data, but so much of Populi holds really important academic data and it could be really easy to miss a negative change if you don't happen to go to a person's profile. Especially for students who have graduated and are not active any more.
We are also really nervous about the lack of granularity in permissions (for example, having to give someone the Registrar role just so they can see what programs students are in). So, it would be great to have a top-level change log to see what was being changed.
Even better, make it part of the Data slicer, so we could run queries on who changed what, and export the results! For example, show everyone who changed their password, or show everyone who changed their address within a certain date range.

Shannon Kropf Jeremiah, I agree completely. We struggle with giving staff and faculty registrar status quite frequently. I love your idea about the data slicer.

David Brady These are all great ideas, especially the idea for a Master Change Log. Populi's greatest strength is how with one click you can change something system-wide, but therein lies the possibility that somebody might accidentally change something they shouldn't. And without monitoring each student's Activity Feeds this change might be overlooked.
Also, I share Jeremiah's concern about permissions. Could there be a way to customize a role? For instance, an Interviewer role? That way a faculty member interviewing an applicant is only granted what they need.

John Coumerilh We had over 500 students last fall and expecting a huge registration this coming fall. We only have 50 registering in this spring term and I spend all day trying to track what 8 or so staff members and many faculty members are doing in Populi so that things that are entered incorrectly or check boxes missed, etc. can be fixed when they happen instead of when they are stumbled upon later by either a student or staff. We are still in the Populi learning stage but now have so many staff entering data that our right hand does not know what our left hand is doing. If we had a Master Change List (of all students campus-wide) I would be able to teach our staff how to better use Populi. This Master Change (or "Global Activity Feed") could have a filter but I could really filter it myself if it's downloadable. Even just a downloadable file (similar to the backup files - without using an interface, just a "download Global Activity Feed" button) would suite me. I think otherwise we are going to drown this coming fall. I cannot imagine a college of 10,000+ using Populi without this feature. (Not to say that Populi is not the best solution and best bargain on the market.) :-) We love it! But are overwhelmed.

Joel Wingo The Master Change Log continues to be a need, especially during registration so that I can see if my fellow staff members are all entering data consistently. Another thing I really need is the ability to see the changes a certain user has been making. Recently I noticed, through the Course Change Log, that a staff member made two mistakes, which made me wonder if they had made more. It would be nice to be able to go to that user's account and see a list of changes that person made in Populi, so that their mistakes could be corrected.

Nathan Icenhower One thing that the change log does keep track of in the Activity Feed is when an address/email/phone number is updated. It would be great to be able to have the "latest update" be available to include in a large export. For instance, if we pulled our "Alumni" list, to be able to see when the address was last updated would be useful.

Mark Ackerman I have marked this feature request as Planned. Stay tuned for updates . . .

Toby Robinson A master change log has been added to the account section of Populi under the reporting tab. It is viewable by Populi account administrators. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact support!

Joel Wingo I love this. Thank you so much!
