Browser "Warning" toggle

Hi guys,

It would be nice to have the option of disabling the "browser warning" message - overall the message has caused me to receive a *bunch* of support requests from people who are either confused (about what the message is saying) or annoyed (that they're being told to change browsers).  

It would be great to be able to disable it, especially for IE7 & IE8 users, for which Populi seems to work fine with.  If not disable it, how about the option for us to be able to tweak the text that is displayed?

  We added that message after the number and severity of security holes in Internet Explorer became great enough to where we no longer felt comfortable recommending it to our users. We added it not to bully our users, but because we care very much about your security and the quality of your experience when using Populi.

  We regularly run into cases where users are having problems with Populi simply because they are using Internet Explorer. Microsoft has published metrics on their IE developer blog that show IE8 is more than 10x slower than current release versions of Firefox, Chrome, or Safari. 

  Due to it's poor support of web standards, just getting Populi to function in IE eats up a lot of valuable development time that we'd rather spend on actual improvements. 

  Honestly, our preference would be that no one uses Internet Explorer to access Populi at all. That seemed a little severe to us so we just went with the message.

  What is it that your users find confusing about the message?

  Thanks for your feedback about this. We certainly don't want to annoy our users. Hopefully IE9 will be as good as Microsoft says it will be and we can just encourage them to upgrade instead.

  Hey there,

  It's not that the message itself is confusing (it's not!) - it's just that our student-base tends to be older - 50% of our students are over 50 (and of those, a fairly night percentage are in their 70s), and some of them have enough trouble checking their email that suggesting they upgrade their browser seems ... pointless? :)  Not to mention a support nightmare.

  FWIW, I'm not a IE fanboy - I personally use Chrome as much as possible - but I just thought I'd make the request in case something could be done.

  The browser warning message that Joshua posted - the one that currently displays in IE7 - will be significantly toned down in the next release, but you still won't be able to turn it off.
