Multiple Venue Course Scheduling Enhancement

Can you enhance the scheduling of meeting times to permit the scheduling of different locations on the same day in different weeks. A portion of some courses run in the classroom on campus for one set of times on a particular day and at another location for a different set of times on the same day.

For example, our music recording course runs as an intensive with classes scheduled from 10 am to 12 noon on campus on Saturday Sep 25th, Oct 9th, Nov 6th and Dec 11th AND from 9 am to 5 pm at the music studio on Saturday Oct 23rd and Nov 20th. This schedule cannot currently be entered into Populi.

  I would also like to be able to allocate 2 rooms for one course with the same meeting time. Some of the course we offer have breakout session where a portion of the class go to another room to work on a piece of music. I currently work around this by scheduling a separate section of the course as a Room Allocation type section.

  I would love to be able to put meeting times into a course that are not reoccurring. Sometimes we have "modular" class that have lectures for one week from 8-5 M-F but the course work load extends before and after this week.

   

  It seems to me that once I enter the dates of the course (for example) January - May, then course meeting times are then forced to be reoccurring during those times.

   

  So Here is a made up example of what I would like to do

   

  Course dates: January -May (reading, homework, papers, lessons extend through out this period)
  Specific Meeting times: March 23-30 M-F 8:00a - 5p (is the actually meeting time for lectures)

  We also have modular courses within a term with meetings times only for that week but coursework extended throughout the term. This feature would really help us, too.

  It would be ideal to be able to customize the meeting times further, specifying a date range as well as a time range.

  We are in a similar situation, we run modules throughout the year which interrupt the regular session.  So we have Course 1 that runs from Sept - Dec., but the meeting times for that course would be something like Sept.1-Oct.5 && Oct. 15-Dec 16 from 8:30-4:30.  Then we offer Module 1 from Oct.6-Oct.14.  from 8:30-4:30 with course work that runs the complete duration of the term.

  Currently, we can't specify a date-range, so the students registering in Course 1 can't register for Module 1 since there is a time conflict.

  I agree. We have a few special courses that only meet once per month. The ability to change the recurrence of a class to monthly or to ad-hoc would be great. As it is now, we can't even add a note that the class meets monthly, so if the student pulls their schedule, it's a bit misleading.

  This seems to come up every semester. I'm surprised other colleges aren't having a problem with this. Surely we aren't the only ones offering module classes in the middle of a term? We really do need a flexible meeting schedule for courses.

  Just in case anybody doesn't know, you can edit meeting times directly in a course instance's Calendar tab to make the schedule exactly how you want it.

  Thanks for the tip Adam, but that calendar doesn't seem to have any affect on the registration conflicts that can occur.  For instance, removing Tues from a course for one month still causes conflicts with a course that only runs for that one month. Likewise, adding new class times to the calendar (say one saturday) does not seem to add it to the registration schedule. If another class is scheduled for that one saturday no conflict is reported for a student registering in both classes.

  Let me know if that's not clear & I'll give some better examples. But the short of it is that calendar tab for a course instance doesn't seem to do much for registration and course conflict purposes.

  Here is our timetable for instance. Note that in the fall semester there are two different classes running at the same time at different segments of the four month term. Theology I starts Sept 10 and ends Oct 26, and runs from 9:00-10:30 am. Then Theology II starts Nov 12 and ends Dec 21, and runs from 9:00-10:30am as well. Attempting to delete or alter each course instance calendar would be laborious and does not solve timetable conflicts during open registration.

  Here is an example of what would be ideal. This would let you add meeting times for a date range.

  We would really like this feature as well since we have courses that meet for 2 weekends (not back to back).  Recently, a group of students missed the weekend course because Populi had it as re-occuring and students did not know which weekend date the actual course was.
