Payment plan options when applying

It would be very helpful to be able to apply a payment plan right from the By Term page and be prompted for which invoices to be included in the payment plan, then the system should take the sum total of all of those invoices and break them down into the appropriate # of payments per due date according to the plan configuration.

Currently it is VERY cumbersome to have to go into each student account, open each invoice that needs to be on the payment plan, apply the payment plan to each invoice, delete any extra pending payment plan charges that are generated (a payment plan fee is generated for each invoice selected for a payment plan whether it is in the same term or not).

  Payment plans have been completely overhauled since the original post in 2010. Back in days of yore, payments plans could only live at the invoice level. Now they can exist at the term level or the student level and include a mix of invoices. Schedules and late fees are also more customizable. Going to close this feature request for now.

  Dawn,

  I hear what you're saying. One possible workflow change might help you, however--if you apply a Payment Plan to the student before you invoice any charges, all subsequent invoices will fall under that payment plan (if you invoice first, then add the Payment Plan, you have to manually pin invoices to the plan). As you've seen with Payment Plans, you can set a minimum amount; therefore, you could exclude invoices under, say, $500. Would that help you out in the time being?

  Brendan,

  Problem is we don’t know if students are going to use the payment plan until
  after they are invoiced. I think it makes sense to see the invoice/balance
  due and then decide whether it can be paid all up front or by monthly
  payments.

  We have a similar situation here when it comes to payment plans and I would also greatly appreciate a feature like this.

  We would like to give students the option to "opt in" to a payment plan upon enrollment into our seminary. This would be a very helpful feature.

  We also see some issues with payment plans when there are multiple charges in one invoice. For instance, we have a system where we charge a $50 registration fee every time a student registers. There is also a $40 payment plan flat fee. This prompts the tuition and the registration fee to be invoiced together and the payment plan fee to be invoiced separately. Our payment plan is directed to collect 50% tuition and $90 fee to account for the fees that are generated, but for some reason, the payment calculation does not generate the right amount. I think it might help if we can make the payment plan recognize how to divide up the specific payments if possible.

  We would also appreciate this option!  Another issue related to Dawn's example is if you apply payment plans to several invoices and the payment plan is supposed to automatically generate a late fee...it does so for each invoice.  So each month you have to delete several pending late fees if the student misses their payment.
