Many school like ours have one one commencement service and thus confer degrees only once a year. However, students can complete their requirements in the Summer or Fall semester but the board only meets once a year and the degree is granted in April. I would like a field that allows me to put in the date the degree was complete and a date the degree was granted.

We used to have a ceremony date in addition to the granted date. it was always either left blank or was just the same as the granted date so we decided to simplify things and just use the granted date which is essential for reporting and such.
What would the function of a degree completion date be? Is there significance to the date which degree requirements were met?
The function is that granted a degree is a legal function of the board of regents. Most college have one or 2 times the board meets to vote and approve degrees. The awarded date is the date that the degree is physically awarded to the student based on the boards approval. For us we award degrees every April. However, a student complete the degree requirement the summer of fall semester before. It is important the have a the completion and awarded dates appear on the transcript. Student that complete in summer or fall will to out to look for work and may need their transcript. The employer needs to know they completed in Dec but the degree was not awarded until April.

HI Again
The specific problem we are having is that our counseling student complete in August at the end of our summer semester. We award degrees the following April. We fill in the award date in Populi with the April date so i matches what is on the degree. However, these students are applying for licensing and the board needs to know if they are completed.

This isn't a change that we're currently planning on implementing. Perhaps you could use a tag or custom field to keep track of these students.
