We would like to have assignments that are specifically for extra credit - not required as part of the grades, but available to those who wish to take advantage of it fi their grade needs a boost. I hope you will create such a option.

Joel Wingo Yes, it seems that right now any extra credit has to be applied toward an existing assignment. It would be nice to be able to create a separate assignment that automatically calculates as extra credit toward the total points of the course as a whole.

Adam Sentz @Troy - We have not, to date, implemented extra credit assignments. When we decide to implement or start working on a feature we'll mark it as "Planned".

Permanently deleted user Please implement extra credit assignments. I've structured the course to include an extra credit assignment and have been wondering why it isn't reflected in the grades of the student's who took advantage of it. They way that I've structured the course is going to make it difficult to simply add the points to another assignment.
Seems a pretty necessary part of grading....

Adam Sentz @Michele - If we decide to implement or start working on a feature we'll mark it "Planned". Once a feature is available it will get marked "Done".

Michelle Winger We are still waiting for this to happen. It would be very beneficial for students, and much less time consuming for instructors, if there was an option for entire assignments to be considered extra credit. Right now I have to work my way around the system and apply extra points for a "zero point test" to another assignment. This can look somewhat suspicious - teachers changing grades manually is not ideal. Thanks for your consideration.

Traci Morris We have faced this issue again today. I had to instruct someone how to add extra credit. It would be much easier if there was an extra credit option. It would make it easier and clearer to keep track of and designate which points are extra credit and that they had been awarded. Having them attached to other assignments makes it difficult to track.

You can't enter a grade... you have to apply the extra points to another assignment. This leaves room for human error in grade calculation. The whole process is messy, and grades are being amended frequently which calls integrity into question. It would be nice to have this option up and running soon. It's been a while...

Vikram Peters Yeah, it seems that the extra credit option has been requested for the past 3 years, and it has not gotten resolved as we go into the fourth year (2014). I have had students in my class who deserve an extra credit award, but am unable to reward them their due. I hope the Populi makes a good faith effort to add the extra credit option as quickly as possible.

Adam Sentz @Vikram - We know it's been requested for a long time, and we're as unhappy as anyone that we haven't been able to get to it yet. We're a small development team so it can take a while to get to work on functionality we want to add, even when it's something that a lot of people would find really helpful, like this.
I'm going to go ahead and mark this on Planned; we've always intended to add extra credit assignments. I can't say exactly when we'll be able to implement it (it involves grade calculations so it's not what we'd call trivial), but I can say we know it's an important feature that a lot of our users want, and we're committed to adding it as soon as we can.
In the meantime, you can apply extra credit manually to the final grade before you finalize a course. Not a perfect solution by any means, but at least you can give the credit to the students that deserve it.

Julio Cordero It would be good to be able to automatically calculate extra credit toward the total points of the course as a whole. Also, we should be able to add points or percentage % to one individual or multiple students at one time within the assignments or course as a whole.

Adam Sentz @David - Between you and me, it's already in testing. It's part of a release containing a number of course management improvements which is in the final stages of development. Can't say how long QA, etc. will take, but it shouldn't be too long now.
