I often post academic progress documents on individual student's activity feed wall. If it's something that relates to the advisor, I make the document visible to him, but I can't choose to let the student see that same document.
It would help me to have a visibility option both for "students" and for "this student" so that the person can see things on his/her wall, and for items which are OK for all students to see.
I like this suggestion. It seems I use the activity feed in a similar way and would love to be able to make certain documents visible to students. My only caution would be that there would be no way to make something visible to absolutely everyone without actually clicking purposefully on a student role. I wouldn't want people to accidentally make something available to students without knowing it... yikes!
