Editing Inactive Students

I often have to go back and clean up an old student record that has a student role that has been made inactive.

When I do this, I have to: 

1. go in and make the student role active

2. make whatever changes are necessary, and then

3. deactivate the role again.

The problem is that when I deactivate the role, I have to re-enter the withdrawal date and reason, which is very cumbersome, particularly if I don't have the hard copy of the file in front of me.

I would love to have the ability to edit records without having to activate the student role first.

  I agree. This is a real frustration. There could be a simple refinement to the dialogue box allowing the user to retain the original exit date and reason. Or those fields could be made optional.

  I've been doing the same thing recently (activating, editing, then deactivating). We especially run into this situation if we are preparing a transcript for someone who was at our college in the pre-Populi days. Because of this I find that not only do I need to activate the student but also activate the program, degree and specialization then remember to retire it so that our current students aren't confused by these "new" degree options. A way to edit without having to reactivate and deactivate at each step would be very time-saving.
