We are in the process of implementing online courses for our school and we think a vital tool for the online learning experience is the availability to communicate with your professor on an instant messaging setting. This will provide instant communication not only between professor and student but also student to student. Thank you for considering and making this possible.

Christal Fehr I'd love to see this as part of the registration side too... so that students could communicate with their advisor through instant messaging to get help with selecting courses, and programs.

Joel Wingo Similarly, my colleagues and I would love to see a private message system built into Populi, like those feature in Instagram, Twitter, and other social media platforms. The bulletin board for each student is public, and some students unsubscribe from all emails that come from Populi. An option to direct-message the student would work great in this situation.
When the student logs into Populi, they would see the notification of a new direct/private message (which is not visible to other students).

Permanently deleted user Also, in addition to the ability for teacher to student messaging, what about the ability for interoffice messaging between office staff? I found this to be a useful tool when I worked at Florida International University. Say the person was on the phone and they couldn't switch lines, you could send them a quick chat and get a response back without interrupting the call and student information flow.

Brian Barga I think this is a great idea and would be highly beneficial for everybody when this feature is set-up. Adding a "chat" or "instant messaging" functionality in Populi is another one of those options which has good potential to increase workflow efficiency and communication. I was collaborating with a colleague on a project and I would like to send my colleague a quick message confirming that the project has been completed.
Top database management companies like Google for their Gmail, Yahoo, etc., has the chat/instant messaging functionality available for a reason and I believe having this in Populi will definitely benefit everybody in the school context.
We need to get more votes on this one!
