Editing Assignment Types

In the assignment portion of a course, when a faculty member clicks the "edit groups and assignments" to make changes to the course assignments, is there a possibility for editing changes in the "assignment type" column?  We can edit all other aspects of an assignment except the type of assignment.  As of now, all of the assignments needing to change "types" must be deleted and recreated.  This would be very helpful for those faculty members who were affected by the changes to their assignment set-up.  

The advantages for professor-student interaction and the submission of multiple files is a wonderful addition to the courses, however, with it came some complications for assignments that were created prior to the changes, they are now locked into a certain file type.

  Hi Brooke,

  We originally allowed assignment types to be changed, but during testing we found that it was too complicated and created too much confusion. There just isn't a great way to handle a File or Test type assignment being converted into something else. I realize that it's probably a little tedious to have to redo some assignments in course instances that are already set up for this term, but moving forward we really believe that it will be better for everyone if assignments types are only set when they are created.

  I should mention that we're happy, during this transitional period, to change assignment types for faculty who have already set up assignments that aren't the correct type since the update. If they send us a support request with the name of the course, section, term, which assignments they'd like change, and what they'd like them changed to, we'll sort them out!

  Thanks for the update and explanation, I am clearer now on the complexity of that option being available.  I appreciate your willingness to assist the faculty, and I will pass this along to them.

  We talked about it and decided to work in letting you change your assignment types provided there isn't already test history on a Test type or assignment submission(s) on a File type. Shouldn't be too long...

  This is great news!!  Thanks for allowing this option, I hope it benefits more than just our faculty...we really appreciate it.  This will save our professors a significant amount of time on reentering their courses into the system and less stress for our students who waiting to turn in assignments.

  You can now change an assignment type provided there isn't already test history on a Test type or assignment submission(s) on a File type.
