The "Browse Resources" tab which is available to Library Staff is extremely useful in searching for books by specific criteria. It would be great if this was available in the public catalog and to regular patrons.

Toby Robinson Official comment Browse resources is now available to logged in patrons.

Wren Shaver Would it also be possible to add publication date to the specific criteria?

Damien Kurek This would be a valuable feature, and would be looked one as a significant improvement by some of the college accrediting bodies. As cumbersome as it is,the browse tab does provide more of the essential search functions that any library catalogue must have.

Joel Wingo I didn't realize that this great feature was not available to all users! It would be a big help, especially if the list could be exported as a PDF (instead of the laborious email, link, ZIP file, and CSV process). Our students could generate a list of books with call numbers (by a certain author, and they could walk around the library with that list and find the books they need.

David Stauffer This would be extremely helpful for those unfamiliar with typing in search operators. Right now its a significant hindrance to accepting the library module at our school.

Charley Seavey I'm with David Stauffer. We are not at all happy with the present search engine. Adding the Browse Resources to what the students can use would be a huge step forward. Adding a keyword condition would be a big help as well

Meredith Ader I am ditto-ing all these thoughts. And I would like to add that searching the content or description would fix a lot of our problems as well. The current system is so limited and doesn't provide what we need without excessive digging in the subjects. Students can be taught--and are--but it feels overly complicated. Students would likely rather just "Google" an answer once frustration with our catalog search sets in.

Sarah Cavanagh I agree with the previous postings. The current search parameters are very limited, and the advanced search option is extremely complicated. Our students would benefit from the "Browse Resources" tab for all of the reasons above, but also to find resources recommended or reviewed by others, particularly faculty.
I note this feature request dates to 2011. I wonder, is there any possibility of moving it forward in the near future?
Thank you

Grace Poole I, too, agree with these thoughts. The current search system is sooooo basic. I don't want to underestimate our students, but I doubt that many of them will take the time to read through the advanced search tutorial, let alone practice it. We're making an effort to get most of them to even use the library, so the easier and more visual the catalog is, the better.
I think the "Browse Resources" tab would be really helpful to showcase the items we have available for both our students and faculty, as well as our accrediting bodies.
