Longer Account Number Strings

On the accounting tab, it would be helpful to have longer account number possibilities for more detailed classifications.  For example, the university I work for has account numbers in the format xxxxx-xxx-xx-xx (Account-Department-Program-Fund).  This allows for great detail in our accounting classifications. 

In Populi, the accounts are limited to 5 digit numbers which limits the amount of detail and flexibility in the accounting module.  Can this area of Populi be expanded?

  Thanks for the input, Josh.

  Is your account numbering nomenclature determined, or perhaps informed, by the Uniform Chart of Accounts (UCOA)? Does this make your tax reporting easier?

  We are a private university so we don't use the UCOA.  We based our chart of accounts on other school's sytems (i.e. University of California), National Association of College and University Business Officers (NACUBO), and certain federal requirements. 

  It's not so much of a tax reporting issue, but more of an in-house issue regarding reporting, convenience, and compatability with our internal accounting.

  Thanks, Josh. If you attach your account numbers in a support request, we can force them in—assuming the max length is 15, like you stated before.
