My suggestion is that the option be made available to include the name of an individual to the visibility option and not just a general role. When placing a note in the activity feed on a profile it might be needed to include one other person and not the entire group of individuals that are classified with that role.

Additionally, even if we could add more groups to visibility it would improve the function. For instance... if I wanted to ad an "Advancement" group even a "Biology Department" we should be able to assign individuals to whatever role option the admin wants to assign them to...
This feature would be a welcome addition to the privacy settings with a profile. I recently had a staff user ask about being able to make a comment visible to herself and the members of her department. Here was her comment:
"Would Populi be able to create a feature that allows departments to share information privately among one another? Right now there is no way that the internship department here at Heritage is able to share information privately without other roles having access to it."
So, a feature to add individuals to privacy settings would be a welcomed first step. Of course, adding a department as an option on visibility would suggest that we can do custom groups of people in additional to the baked-in roles. I believe this is out of scope for this feature, but is a feature that should be considered (I'll look for a feature request or create one myself on the topic of custom groups).
This feature would improve privacy and security significantly and is what I was used to with our former student information system. I believe this would aid us in keeping compliance with FERPA in a more strict way. Someone submitted a feature request that when advisor is checked on the visibility in notes that only the advisor's listed on the student's record should be able to view those notes. Sometimes they are very confidential.
