Originally from ticket #15822.
The initial application form located at schoolname.populiweb.com/application has Middle Name listed as an optional field. It would be really helpful to have a setting to make that a required field.

Adam Sentz @Jennifer - We made it optional because, while most people have a middle name, not everyone does. If someone without a middle name was applying, and the field was required, they'd have to enter something like "N/A" which wouldn't be very good data.

Jennifer Urciaga Could you update it to be required but include a note that says something like "type NMN if no middle name"? We're having to manually enter each middle name that gets skipped here but then entered on their application. Just a thought that would save us a little time. :)

Adam Sentz @Jennifer - We try to build Populi in such a way as to promote good data quality. Asking users to enter something into a middle name field that isn't actually their middle name goes against that so it's probably not something we'd do.
