Course Department Totals on Degree Audit

Would be great if there was a way to see at a glance on the degree audit a total of credits that fall within each of the course departments we've specified.

For example, we require our 3 year BA grads to have a minimum of 27 credit hours in the Arts & Science department; however, there is no easy way to tally these credits when checking the degree audit.

As a work-around, we've created a specialization for Arts & Science courses that includes all the courses that fall into that department. Trouble is, I need to keep un-retiring that specialization and retiring it after I check a degree audit as I don't want applicants to be able to select that specialization on their application. So, it works, but not great.

Would love a better solution.

  Course Groups aren't doing the trick for you? That's what they're more or less designed to handle... What if you grouped all the Arts and Science Dept courses into one course group?

  Funny you mention that as that thought occurred to me just as I was typing out the request this morning. I guess my hesitation with doing that is that the department requirement is kinda behind the scenes, and not on the same level as the other program requirements. By listing it as a course group in the same way we list all the requirements that are listed in our catalogue, it may get confusing for those trying to read the degree audit.

  For example, we already have a course group called Arts & Science elective in many of our degrees. Students are required to take 3 credits from that course group. But they also need to take courses like Interpersonal Communication, Faith & Science, etc. which fall under the Department of Arts & Science courses. I can see it becoming confusing to students when we start listing the Arts & Science requirment that's in the catalogue and then also having an overall Arts & Science department requirement... does that make sense?

  Plus, we would have to list the Arts & Science department course group in a separate specialization than all the other individual Arts & Science requirements as we would want each course to fulfill both course groups... as in, they need Faith & Science, Interpersonal Communication, 3 Arts & Science credits (and so on), but overall, all those courses together must equal 27 credits. So, I'm seeing us having to create a separate specialization anyway.

  But, that being said, I will think this through a little more. Perhaps we can make the course groups work better for us than the specialization idea???
