We have students who graduate/withdraw and do not remove their SMS notification prior to leaving. I now have a student (probably several!) who has an old mobile telephone number, but I cannot "mark old" due to the SMS feature tied to that number.
I would like to suggest that Administrators be given permission to override the student SMS settings and delete telephone numbers if outdated.

@Deb - Only Populi Users can have verified SMS numbers. So, if someone is no longer at your school, you can deactivate their user account and then do whatever you like with their mobile number. If they are still an active user then it's up to them to manage their own SMS verified number. They can un-verify it or replace it with a new number at any time under Settings > Notifications.
It's also worth mentioning that Populi automatically removes SMS verification if the number no longer works. Every time a notification is sent it either goes through or it doesn't, and if it doesn't the verification is removed. So if a number really is no longer valid it should clear itself up the next time you send a notification.
Unless of course in between SMS notifications the number gets reassigned to somebody else. In which case it will be technically valid but no longer useful…
@Sam - That set of circumstance is possible provided the user doesn't clear their SMS verification, remains a user, and their number is assigned to someone new before you send a notification. In the rare event that this occurs the new owner of the number can reply with the standard "STOP" message and their number will be invalidated.
Is there no other way to do this--perhaps through the Google Admin settings?
Since the last time I posted we changed the relationship between contact info and a user's text message notification number setting. You can now manage a phone number even if it is verified. Note that this only affects the contact info and not the users text message notification number setting.
Adam, thanks. I only mentioned this because in some area codes (like Metro DC area) numbers get recycled very quickly.
