Creating Student Performance Evaluations

In the same way you can create Course Evaluations and attach them to classes for the students to assess the courses, we would like to create Performance Evaluations for the instructors to assess the students. We have a Practicum class that is hands-on, so assessing their performance is important.

For example, in our PR100 General Practicum course, we would have 8 assignments called Performance Evaluations (Performance Evaluation 1, Performance Evaluation 2, etc.). These assignments would be completed by the instructor(s), though. So, our idea is that the instructor(s) would click on the students' names and fill out the form for each student (8x throughout the semester).

These are the 5 questions we'd like to see in the evaluation (just to give you an idea). The instructor(s) could assign them a 1 to a 5 in each area.

*Attitude*: The student displayed a positive attitude and responded well to constructive criticism.*

 *Communication/Teamwork*: The student was attentive to instruction and communication respectfully with others.*

 *Leadership*: The student took initiative and was effective in accomplishing work assignments.*

 *Flexibility*: *The student easily adapted to necessary/spontaneous changes.*

 *Personal Appearance*: The student’s appearance was excellent, neat and appropriate for the setting.*

 

Would such a feature on Populi benefit you and your school?

  Right now we use Survey Monkey and it is not efficient or easy to report from for us.

  Agreed. Something like this would be helpful in Practicum courses when students are assessed while they are in action. It would even be helpful to be able to send it to another person (a supervisor who is "outside" the course) who could assess the student. That would probably look something like a recommendation form in the Application.

  @Paul - We haven't implemented student performance evaluations specifically, but it seems like you might be able to set up a grading rubric on one of existing assignment types to do this.

  We would also like to have this for students by term--not just by course. And, we need a way for courses with multiple instructors to evaluate each student, so we would need more than one evaluation to be done for each student in any given course or term.

  The evaluation also needs to be part of the student's record, so all of a student's evaluations can be accessed from the same location, and in sequence.

  Has this feature been added?  If not, could someone comment on how to use rubrics to do this?  Our students have a self-assessment that we can set up as a test.  However, we need to have the same form completed by a clinical instructor for each student.  Suggestions for the best strategy to do this?

  Our school would also greatly benefit from a feature like this as mid-q student evals are part of a ministry requirement! Hopefully Populi can incorporate it soon.
