Improved schedule conflict verification for Registration

Hi team,

We often offer weekend courses and thus far Populi does not assess schedule conflicts accurately.

For example, let's say Course A and B are weekend courses offered from March 1 to March 31 but Course A meets every Saturday and Course B meets every Sunday.  

Currently, students would not be able to register for both courses because if they register for one and try to register for the other, Populi will indicate that there's a schedule conflict.  I think the problem is that Populi assess schedule conflict by looking ONLY at the date range in which a course is offered and not the actual meeting times as well.  

It'll be great if this function could be improved.

  @Phuong - Populi bases scheduling conflicts on the course instance schedules (day of the week and time). If you have a course that only meets on Saturday and another that only meets on Sunday they shouldn't conflict. If you can open a support request with some more details we can look into it for you.

  @Adam - The example I used perhaps was not a good one.  I'm going modify the example above to better reflect the situation.  Let's say both courses start/end dates are March 1st - April 1st (total of 4 weeks).  However, Course A meets on Sat & Sun from 9-5pm on weekend 1 and 3; and Course B have the same meeting times except it meets on weekend 2 and 4.  

  Toby just clarified that Populi look at meeting times so in this case, all the meeting times are the same for both courses so Populi sees that as a conflict, but in reality, there's no conflict because the meeting times occur at different dates/weekends.  This is where I'd like to see some improvements with the scheduling verification.

  @Angela.  I received some clarification from Toby.  This is what he said:

  • Populi does not check individual dates. Instead it checks that the meeting times on the course "info" tab match. If so then they are considered conflicting. To avoid this you can manually add the times to the course calendar.

  I've confirmed that this work but it does presents a problem because when students register, there's no meeting times to inform students when class meets.
