Online Pre-registration or "Final Approval" of Online Registration

Like some colleges and universities, we would like to use online pre-registration to help with course scheduling, planning, and academic advising. This could divide registration into phases and spread it out over a longer period of time.

We are hesitant to start using the online registration feature for all of our students since it would not allow us to check and approve students' course selections before they are fully registered in the course and the automatic fees are generated.

  We were about to make a similar feature request.  The concept of having a live system is great, but there needs to be some controls for the administration of the school.  The idea for registration would be similar to the gradesheet where the administration gets an opportunity to "finalize".  The finalization process would then post the registration information live to the students.  There currently is no review process for registration.  Registering a student currently occurs immediately without opportunities to review and make changes prior to the student seeing the registration.

  Joel's suggestion is related to student's registering without administration review and approval, our need is a bit different but the concept is the same.  In our case we register the students.  We typically register the students in advance, review the registrations, make changes as needed. During this process it would be nice for there to be an approval mechanism to make the registration live and visible to the students.  I would also expect at this point default tuition schedule would be kicked off and pending charges to be created, at which point the financial administrator can review the charges and invoice the student's registration fees accordingly.

  I would love to see something similar. Ideally our students register and make course changes with their faculty advisors or through the registration office. Using online registration is great and easy. However we find that students will often make changes without consulting their advisors and subsequently throw off their degree audit by choosing the wrong courses. We have tried to stem that by using the registration lock so that changes can only made by advisors or the registration office but this is not fool proof as the lock has to be turned off and on again with each change and missing a student's lock is so easy to do. Having a review stage as suggested here before finalizing the registration would be so helpful in catching the little changes that so easily mess up entire programs.

  This is something that we'd like to see, but it would be based on the student's bill being paid. Students can request to register for courses, but they will not be officially registered until the semester is paid. This of course assumes that Populi will also invoice students automatically when the semester starts (or on a date defined by the registrar).

  Not sure if anything has happened with this, but we would love to see the same thing - allow students to pre-register themselves, but final registration requires the approval of the academic advisor.
