Advising Setting

In order to set up advising, all the numbers need to be inputted. As an academic advisor, we don't really need to see flags on the lowest assignment grade.

For instance, I have a lot of students who have received more than 80% (B- above), but most of them got red flags because of the lowest assignment grade. I just wanted to see flags on students who receive below 70% average assignment grade for instance.

I would like to pick and choose which categories (attendance percentage, consecutive absences, average assignment grade, lowest assignment grade) I can set up flags on.

  This type of feature would be helpful for our school too. At least to have the lowest assignment as a separate (optional) category in the advising settings rather than being required to have something for that column would be nice for some teachers. Classes may not require the student to complete every assignment, but with the current system, any student missing one assignment would be flagged even if there was not true reason for concern. This can make it more difficult for the advisees to focus on the students who truly need help.

  Often times, lower-level classes have many small assignments (e.g., daily quizzes) that individually contribute only slightly to a student's overall grade. In those cases, low scores are not only common but relatively inconsequential. Today, 50% of my advisees are flagged as "red" for a very low assignment grade, even though all but one or two have straight As or A/Bs. I agree that we should have the option to set up only certain categories for flagging advisees.

  Brittany Kemlo - A skipped assignment that receives no grade should be treated as excused and not trigger a low assignment grade flag. If that's not what you're seeing let us know.

  I mean skipped as in the student skipped the assignment, but the faculty still gave a grade. Perhaps the assignment is not required to pass the class; the student chooses to focus on other assignments and take a zero for that particular assignment since it does not significantly impact his overall class grade.

  My faculty are reaching out to see if there is any progress on this request. Currently, a faculty member has red flags for all of his advisees, except one. The one that has no red flags is only green because no attendance or grades for assignments have been entered in that student's classes for the semester yet. The others who are red are often red because of a zero on a 5-point assignment which does not go away until the 30 days expire (and then only as long as the professors don't have another similar assignment which the student skips as well). This essentially renders the advisee flags useless to us since students are flagged for every assignment that is a zero regardless of their average grade. Advisees would like the flexibility to just see the students who are struggling with their overall assignment grades rather than those who missed a 5 pt. assignment 29 days ago. Just checking if there is any solution or potential progress on this request?
