Hi,
It would be great if we could text a prospective student from their profile! Just a quick update that they are missing a document, etc.
Thanks!

You can now send an SMS from the profile.
Darcy,
Populi allows you to do this as long as the student has verified their phone number during the admissions process to receive text messages.
You can do this by going to a student's profile and in their Admissions tab, click on their Application. Select the Questions tab, then Ask a Question, and you will have the choice of sending a student a text or email with your question.
(Profile>Admissions>Applications>Questions>Ask a Question)
I hope this helps!
Nick
Nick,
When I click on Ask a Question, there is no option to send a text. The student's number is verified. I contacted Populi Support and they confirmed that there is currently no way to send a text to an individual student profile.
Please let me know if there is something missing from your method described above.
Thanks,
Aaron
Aaron,
I'm not sure what I missed here and I do apologize if I mislead anyone, because even though I thought I had tested this before replying in my first post, the ability to text individuals is not there, but the ability to text groups is.
I'll look into this some more and hopefully we'll have something here soon for texting individuals in the admissions process.
Thanks,
Nick
Any updates about this? Our institution would really benefit from being able to text individual students as well.
Thank you,
Jennifer
@Jennifer - We haven't added the ability to text an individual from their profile. If you'd like register your support for this feature request go ahead and click the "Me Too" button to add your vote. Thanks!
I can't find the "ME TOO" button on this post.
@Mary - The layout of this forum changed last Fall. To up-vote a feature request just click the up-arrow to the left of the title.
Have you guys figured out how to provide this feature yet? It would be extremely helpful in our financial aid and admission's process. Students are much more responsive to their cell phones than e-mail....thanks, John
Yes, I can text individually through their application. See Nick's note from March 23. But I don't know how you group text. Anyone have instructions for that?
Individual texting does not work. See the notes from April 11 from Nick and I.
Darcy, You can group text from the communications tab. Build your communications group and it will give you the option to text the group when you select the actions box...
I don't get a selection to text a student from our questions window in conjunction with their application...
I just tried it with applicant Albert Stasyuk and he replied that he received the text.
Darcy,
Could you explain step by step how you are able to do this? Thanks, John
Hi John,
Here are the steps:
1. Click on the applicants online application
2. You'll see 3 tabs -- Application / Questions / Notes&Files
3. Click on Questions tab
4. Click on Ask a Question
5. You'll see: Notify them via -- and if the applicant has verified that we can text them, you'll have the option to text. Otherwise, you'll just see the option to email them.
6. Write message
7. Click Submit
Sound good?
The "notify hem via" option doesn't exist for me. Below is a screenshot. I've checked this for multiple students. They all have verified text messaging, so that's not the issue.
Hi Aaron,
This is the screen that I see.
Could someone from Populi help out Aaron? I'm not sure why he isn't seeing the option of "Notify them via . . . " verbiage with a drop down.
If anyone wants help from a support rep, please open a support request.
Adam,
On July 18, 2016, in this conversation, you said "@Jennifer - We haven't added the ability to text an individual from their profile. If you'd like register your support for this feature request go ahead and click the "Me Too" button to add your vote. Thanks!"
So, did you all add this feature since then?
@Aaron - We haven't added the ability to text an individual from their profile.
I use a work around by adding a temporary tag, going to the tag's list (often just one student) and then using the Actions menu to text; then I just remove the temp tag. A bit of extra work, but it can get the job done in a pinch.
I agree, this would be very useful. As it stands now, we are sending texts to groups of students. When they reply, they are expecting us to reply via text back, but we can't.
Yes, this feature would be helpful. We were just at the TRACS conference in Orlando, and Mr. Dysart from Dysart group said something like, "if you are still emailing, you are behind the times." Populi, it would be great to add an easy way to text students back and forth and keep a record on their dashboard.
Thanks!
This feature would be very helpful! Having a text student button similar to email student button on their profile would be super efficient for quick on-off messages.
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE!!!!
Yes! We would really benefit from being able to text individual students from profile. Both prospective and current. It would be really helpful for reminding students of important appointments, or notify them with last minute cancellations or changes. Students seem to see messages much faster and more reliably through text! I've been getting around it by texting through the class roster and unchecking all and then only checking the student(s I want to text.
It would be very beneficial if we could text an individual student from his/her main profile. When I search for a student, his/her phone number is displayed on the main page. However, I can't text them from there. All additional clicks, such as going to the student's tab, selecting a course, clicking on the course's roster, selecting the desired student and then texting them - means additional work and time - and therefore makes it inefficient.
This feature is very needed and would be particularly useful to registrars and academic administrators. Please consider adding it soon.
Thank you.
Revisiting this thread 9 months since my original post to say, this feature is still very much needed. The current workaround is time intensive and inefficient. Please Populi add this feature!
