Currently, when using the “retakes” feature in online tests, you have to make an availability exception when first creating an assignment. It would work better for us if there was another choice available in the drop-down menu when creating an assignment labelled something like “retakes available for/on”. This option could allow us to either select a particular day (for the retake) as well as either a particular student name or a group of students who scored below a certain percentage.

Adam Sentz @Molly - Just to be clear, in order to use the "retakes" feature of online tests in Populi it is not required that you make an availability exception for that test. You would only need to make availability exceptions if you have a short initial testing window where students wouldn't have time to retake the test, but you wanted them to have the option to do the retake at a later time. If you wanted to open up the ability for everyone to do their test retakes after the window had close you could just change the test availability to make it available again.

Molly Jones Adam, we wouldn't want the retakes to be available to all students - just to those students who failed it the first time. And for those students retaking the test, it's possible they'd have to take it on different days due to the small number of computers we have on campus.

Adam Sentz @Molly - Sure. In that case, the way things work now, I'd probably wait until you know whom you want to be able to retake then just add availability exceptions for them, and increase the number of retakes for the test. If the normal test window is already closed then just the people you add exceptions for should be able to retake the test.

Jessica Babaker We also would like to see a feature under the retakes option that allows us to enter a "minimum amount of time between retakes", such as 24 hours, or one week.
It is inefficient to have to eliminate the ability to retake, audit the failing grades, and manually make availability and retake exceptions. It also unnecessarily delays the entirety of the students' completion of the test, since they would have to wait for the faculty or administration to allow them to retake the test. Likewise, it is a substantial amount of additional work for the administration and faculty.
I foresee disgruntled emails from students wanting to retake the test after 24 hours of the first attempt, but it happens to land on a weekend, and we won't see their failed attempt any sooner than the next weekday. It is unlikely that this workaround will be successful for us.
