Currently, you have to check the pull list at least once a day to see if any holds have been placed. It would be convenient if library admins/staff received email alerts whenever anyone placed a hold. That way, you wouldn't have to worry about checking the list. And even if you do check the list everyday, let's say in the morning, and a student places a hold in the afternoon, you wouldn't be aware of it until you checked the list the next morning. I realize that email alerts for hold requests in large libraries would be unreasonable/unmanageable, but since Populi is designed for small schools, I think this is a feature that would benefit a lot of libraries.

Sarah Cavanagh I agree. It would be great if there was some way to alert us to hold requests. Even a flag icon would work.

Toby Robinson The pull list tab now shows the number of resources waiting to be pulled.

Molly Jones Thanks, Tony! This is a huge step in the right direction.
I think what would make it even better is if library admins could receive an email in addition to the tab displaying the pull list notifications. That way, you wouldn't have to remember to check the tab.
Also, could the hold list tab include the date that the hold was placed? I know that if you click on the item you can see the hold placed date, but it's just one more step.

Sarah Cavanagh Toby, that's great news. It will make our lives a lot easier.

Molly Jones I just had a student come to the desk today and say that she had put an item on hold. Since I didn't get any type of alert, I had no idea. (Yes, I know you can check the pull list tab a million times a day, but I don't have the time.) Luckily it was no big deal to go retrieve the item. But if you could work your tech magic so that library admins receive an email when something is put on hold, it would be like Christmas morning.

Adam Sentz @Molly - If the student had a resource on hold that was currently checked out, when you checked it in a message would have displayed stating that it was on hold for the student (so you'd know not to reshelve it), and the student would be notified that it was (effectively) pulled. If the resource was on the shelf in the first place, the student wouldn't have been notified it was available until it was marked pulled manually.
Anyway, I think the notification is a good idea, but I'm not sure it would have helped in this case.

Molly Jones Adam, everything you're saying totally makes sense. I guess I just would have liked to have already pulled the item for her so it would've been available at the desk when she asked. Not a big deal, but if you guys can easily make the notifications happen it would be nice!

Adam Sentz @Molly - For sure. If the resource wasn't just returned it's possible the student placed the hold and then just showed up and asked for it without being notified it was pulled yet. In any case, I think I understand what you're looking for.

Tracy Wineke It would be so helpful if Library Admin was notified that a hold has been placed on a book!
