setting a to-do while the activity feed add-a-note is still open

As an admissions rep., often, I am thinking about setting a to-do at the same time I'm composing a note for the activity feed. If I set the to-do before I have completed and saved the note, I lose what I had written in the note. Is it possible to leave the note open and at the same time set a to-do?
