When assigning point values to assignment or the value of assignment groups in a class I would like to have the ability to use partial points or percents. The decimal point would need to be activated as a key for this to work.

When creating a new assignment, you are not able to assign points to the tenth of a point.
I needed items to be worth 7.5 and it would only accept whole numbers. My work around was to alternate. Four assignments that should have been 7.5 each became 7, 8, 7, 8.
However, strangely enough when grading, you can assign decimals to the tenth of a point. It would make my life easier if decimals were permitted from creating the assignment to grading it.
I am a big fan of consistency.
If we can use decimal point in the act of grading why can’t we assign points as 7.5 when creating it in the first place?
Faculty latch on to the smallest things to fight change and this is just the latest. Could you please ask the development team if they would consider editing the field properties when creating assignments to allow for at least one decimal point in the initial point value. You allow up to two everywhere else numbers are used.
@Donna - In your example it looks like you are trying to make sure that those 4 particular assignments are worth 30% of the course grade. In Populi we have something called assignment groups that you can use to set a group of assignments to be worth a certain percentage of the course, and then use the point values inside the group to set the weights of the assignments in that group. If you created an assignment group worth 30% of the course and added those 4 assignments to it they could have any (non-decimal) point value you wanted to use for grading purposes (e.g. 10 points) and still be worth exactly 30% of the course. This way you wouldn't have to unbalance the weights of the assignments.
If you have any questions about how to set this up just let us know in your support request. Thanks!
I know that. A very small number of more tech savvy faculty are using groups.
The majority of faculty are fighting this at every turn. The problem is all our documentation is specified in fractional points. Change management is critical to faculty buy in...as a small school, we cannot change all our documentation at once with our limited resources. I am being inundated with faculty refusing to use the tools because of this and they are very quick to point it out as a design flaw because of a lack of consistency.
I keep hearing "why can't I set a point value of 7.5 when I can grade a 7.2?"
Yes, please add this feature, I need to be able to say assign 0.5 to each of the attendance. 8 classes, 4 points in total. Thank you for listening and consdering.
Jimmy Chan - This shouldn't be necessary if you make use of Assignment Groups. If you'd like assistance with this please reach out to Populi Support.
