When cataloging books in a series, I currently have to use the "is part of" field to create a connection between the various books in the series. However, using this field has the unwanted effect of changing the item type to collection, stead of simply book, audio book, etc. So you're losing a valuable piece of information - is it a book, DVD, audio book? Hard to determine in some instances. It would be nice if "series" was a field that could be chosen.

In order for a resource to be in the is part of field it must be a collection type resource. There needs to be a catalog record for the collection itself that you enter into the is part of field for each constituent resource, rather than adding one of the constituent resources into the is part of field of another constituent resource.
I agree, since we have lots of commentary series in our library.
I agree with this. I am also having trouble creating the collection within the "is part of" field. I am not finding it easy to create a new one if it is not already populated by the record I choose to import.
