@Melinda - Populi uses the race/ethnicity collection categories that are defined by IPEDS, and they specifically prohibit the inclusion of "Other" and "Unknown". You can read more here.
Understood. Thank you.
I'm looking at the Fall Enrollment report for IPEDS' Spring 2016 Reporting and it specifically lists:
I would ask for Populi's race/ethnicity's categories be update to match IPEDS.
Yes particularly since it is a matter of federal regulations.
@Connie - Those are the IPEDS race/ethnicity reporting categories which Populi uses. However, NCES specifies a different method of collecting race/ethnicity data which specifies the two question format that Populi uses.
To the best of my knowledge Populi is in full compliance with the NCES guidelines on both collecting and reporting race/ethnicity data to IPEDS. If you have documentation from NCES that would indicate otherwise please forward it to us so we can make the necessary corrections to our methodology.
If you're interested in further reading on the subject this is a good description NCES's race/ethnicity data guidelines http://nces.ed.gov/ipeds/reic/collecting_re.asp
I also have found this FAQ really helpful https://surveys.nces.ed.gov/ipeds/visFaq_re.aspx
Thanks!
