Export as Common Cartridge

Our faculty love the user-friendliness of the "LMS" side of Populi, and management was hoping to embrace it as an alternative to our current external LMS (Moodle served up via a hosting provider)... but it lacks the option to export a course instance in Common Cartridge format. This is a big road-block for us, because our distance education initiatives involve partnering and sharing online courses with other schools.

Any chance an export as common cartridge feature could be developed, ideally in the next year?

  You can now do Common Cartridge Exports in courses.

  I concur! Populi needs to develop a Common Cartridge. The material uploaded and archived in the databased is owned by the school. If we were to move to a separate LMS the hurdle would be financially draining. Populi does not allow for open terms and this creates a problem for Institutions like Crossroads. We have open enrollment. Since LMS side of Populi is interconnected; we are unable to deliver a course in the Fall and the Spring with the same enrollment dates. If this could be fixed, Populi LMS would be superior...

  I agree also.  It also gives a way for an instructor to be responsible for his/her own course content without having the registrar get involved in importing from another (possibly hard to find) course.  Even if it is a Populi specific file/format.

  I adjunct for a couple of schools who use Populi... and would like to upload a cartridge from my course in one school into another?  Any suggestions.

  It would be great if this feature could be developed. Last year, we had an instructor who approached us wanting to use some of his courses that he developed (and owned) in our Populi, but they were currently in another institution's Populi, and he didn't have any other online copy of them. We would have had to manually re-create them.
  
  The Common Cartridge capabilities in Moodle & Canvas are excellent, and so it would be great to see Populi come to parity in this.

  Evan Donovan - If we have permission from Populi Account Admins at both schools we can move content between accounts. Just send us a support request.

  This surprises me--that Populi can import common cartridges (that is how we initially moved content 8 years ago) but that they have not developed a way to export content. As an online institution, we find ourselves currently needing to move to Canvas in order to better serve our students and teachers--and the lack of ability to create a common cartridge to move content is an issue.  It is very disappointing. Exporting content is a standard practice used by the major LMS companies--whether it is using a .zip file or common cartridge (the two most popular ways to export), Blackboard, Moodle, D2L, ANGEL, Canvas and others all provide ways to export content.  

  I do hope that Populi gives this serious consideration very soon.

  Ann Rill - It's something we want to add. The reason, right now, we have an importer and not exporter is that a lot of people asked for an importer and we've only had a small number of requests for an exporter, and about half of those were people wanting to move content from one Populi to another which we can help with behind the scenes. As we build Populi out we try to look at what will help the most people so we can use our resources efficiently.

  We'd be happy to look at your LMS related issues. Seems like much of it would be addressed by LTI improvements that are already in the works. We're also adding a Zoom integration very, very soon which should help step things up in the streaming video arena.
