Enable Selecting Specific Students in Data Slicer

I need to update a Term Student Field for several batches of students. At Academics > Reporting > Data Slicer, I can update custom fields en masse, but there's not a filter combination that will return exactly the set of students I need, and there are no checkboxes to isolate specific students from a larger set. What I think I'm going to do is tag each batch of students using Academics > Academic Term > Students, then isolate those tagged batches in the Data Slicer and update the custom field that way. But it would be better if there were checkboxes available in the Data Slicer.
