Attendance 'Present' option in Gradebook

Is there anyway that you can think of where points in a gradebook item could equal ‘Present’ in the attendance area? Maybe give ‘Present’ option in gradebook grade choices that pushes to attendance? We want to build classes where if an athlete misses a class they automatically know to complete a certain assignment to replace that absence. If they fulfill assignment requirements they get ‘Present’ attendance for that day.
