Expand options under Race/Ethnicity & Gender

I am adding information to students' and leads' profiles and finding these options limiting to our student populations.

While it is helpful to be able to check multiple boxes, the choices under Race/Ethnicity do not fully represent our student population. Some students identify as multi-racial but do not specify which. Other students come from backgrounds which are not covered by the limited choices listed: Hispanic or Latino? (Y/N) American Indian/Alaska Native, Asian, Black or African American, Native Hawaiian or Other Pacific Islander, White.

What is being done to improve this? Having a text box marked "other" with a place to write in a response would be a start, but I hope that it can be expanded to offer more choices that reflect the diversity of our world.

As for Gender, it would be helpful to have more than the two options (male and female). There are probably standards being developed about this as well, but here's one option I found that would be more inclusive:

☐  Female

☐  Male

☐  Non-binary/ third gender

☐  Prefer to self-describe _________________

☐  Prefer not to say

Thank you for considering this. I'm sure it's not the first time you've heard this feedback and I do hope that there are ways to improve this in the works.
