We would love the option to upload files as answers to test questions. We have several courses where students are supposed to answer a question by pronouncing a word, then sending that recording to the instructor. If they could simply upload the audio file as their answer, it would save quite a few steps. Thanks!

Toby Robinson Official comment Video/Audio can now be used for test answers, grading feedback, discussion and bulletin board posts.

Clark Wray This would be amazing! Don't forget to upvote your own post so that it is counted.

Adam Sentz Cool idea!

Jessica Babaker Likewise, our students would also benefit from being able to upload other file types, such as video and audio recordings or images—especially students with special accommodations to submit their work in formats other than writing!
This would also make submitting and grading longer essay exams much easier. We would prefer that the students can have all elements of their essay exam managed by Populi, except to use a word-processor and submit a PDF, as opposed to using the exam text box. We love that we can have Populi manage the dates, and assign questions randomly, but the submission process can be messy, because the essay is really too long to be managed practically within the exam's text box, solely.

Dr. Jacob Leporacci I see several people have commented here. This would be incredibly valuable for me as a music professor. Is this something that is being considered?

Adam Sentz Dr. Jacob Leporacci - I still think it's a cool idea. I'm sure multiple choice audio samples would be super handy in a music class.

Dr. Jacob Leporacci Hey Adam- I don't necessarily need the function for answers on my end, but more on the student side. I would like for the student to be able to upload files as a response to questions. I think that is what the original post was trying to request.

Adam Sentz Dr. Jacob Leporacci - Ah, yes, you're correct. I was mixing it up with a different request. Lots of good ideas!

Marianne Vanderboom I am upvoting this feature as well. It is so important to accommodate test-taking for students who have written-language barriers.

Jochanan Löwenstein Hi:) This is really crucial for us in language courses as well. Students are not proficient yet in typing in early stages. Is this on the way? or is there a way to bypass this?
I thought about creating "Exam" page within a lesson, and creating assignments with file uploads, but it will calculate every assignment as a separate item in the final grade calculation within the assignment group. -
Kristopher Endean I agree that this would be a valuable features of tests. Allowing an audio upload would be helpful for language tests. Allowing a picture upload would be helpful if there was complex written work (sentence diagramming, etc.) that was part of the test. Allowing a file upload would give students the opportunity to use some basic Word features like spelling and grammar checks for their essays while retaining document metadata. Allowing file uploads could also be useful for math tests (e.g., Excel spreadsheets, long hand problems). It would also allow a simple "show your work" option after a series of questions. I think there are a plethora of possible applications!

Abby Stufflebeam This would be super helpful for our students. They have a file that would be attached to each question for our exams.

Vadim Chepurny For language courses, right now, what we do is have the proctor reach out to the teacher a week in advance, who then emails the exam document to the proctor. The student then submits a file type assignment for the exam. The challenge is that there is no check-in/out for proctoring. This could be alleviated by having a file type question for a test type assignment and setting that as the only question.
