I would like the ability to query all people in Populi via a Data Slicer and not just students. I routinely need to export information from all users to synchronize with external systems such as Office 365 and On premises Active Directory domain. We try and keep all systems in sync. Currently I have to export to export different spreadsheets for each different type of user and do all data slicing external to Populi. Makes it very labor intensive.

Adam Sentz @Rob - There may be other options worth exploring such as using the API. You can read about this kind of thing in the Developer section of our knowledge base. If you have any questions that aren't addressed there please open a support request.

Thomas Winger I've been using the Communications module to export name and address information from the broader institutional community in order to produce a printed directory. But it would be helpful to be able to customise the fields available in order to add information like "Role", "children" (custom field), or tags. I realise this information could be attained through the API, but I don't have any programming staff available. Should I make a feature request, or is there another way to export these fields?

Adam Sentz @Thomas - It should be pretty straightforward to get names, and contact info via Role pages. For example, you could go to the Staff role page and export everyone along with their contact info for the staff portion of the directory. You can even export "ID Photo", and you'll get a zip file with ID photos and a column in the export that will let you document merge the photos. There isn't a way to include children though. Maybe there's some way children could be exported in a mergeable format (in theory)?

Thomas Winger Okay, I see. I didn’t think about using the roles pages. In fact, custom fields (like our “children” field) are available there. So it appears I could get what I want by doing custom exports, one role (or tag) at a time. Not quite as quick as the Communications method, which allows combining roles/tags in one query, but at least I can see how to do it. I would still suggest that adding the field options (as available in the “roles” export dialogue) to the Communications export would be a very useful improvement.
Thanks.
Tom.

Adam Sentz @Thomas - Mailing list exports don't have the normal export helper because you can merge spouses into one row and include organizations. We'll keep this in mind, though.

Thomas Winger Right. I see the problem, as you couldn’t choose individual fields for those records. Perhaps a creative solution will eventually emerge.

Adam Sentz @Thomas - In case it's useful to you, we just added a people and organization export helper to mailing lists, and a people export helper to the data slicer.
