It'd be very helpful if our staff were able to enter, and then easily see later, the proper pronunciation of prospect/student names.

Toby Robinson Official comment Name pronunciation can now be added by clicking on the name in the profile.

Deb Selin We would like this as well.

Ginger Howell Yes. We would like that for students and faculty. For example, we have a faculty member who pronounces her name "Eh-dit" although it is spelled like "Edith." Maybe we can create an area in the "Other Info" section on the bio page.

Adam Sentz I think this would be a cool feature. In the meantime folks could put a note about this in the bio field of their profile.

Brent Graber Additional thought: audio recording.

Adam Sentz Brent Graber - I'm a fan of this method, but I think you'd want the person to do their own name pronunciation which would necessitate a whole pending/approved layer. Something using the Web Speech API would be simpler to implement.

Ginger Howell I ended up working with the instructor to not only put a phonetic pronunciation in our Course Office lesson, but also a recording of her pronunciation using a free app online. You are right, we can't just let students have control over that but a Web Speech API might work.

Brent Graber Fair point. I'm suspect this is why Google Workspace doesn't have the pronunciation feature for their education editions ... though it's unclear to me that a work environment would be any "safer" in terms of people behaving appropriately. :)
