Would like there to be a way to restrict the number of classes and/or credits students can sign up for, more narrowly than the an overall setting that already exists.
For example, based on discipline, some students are required to take reduced course loads, so it would be great if we could restrict their registration in some way, systematically, rather than having to manually monitor.
Additionally, we'd really like to be able to limit the number of course a student could register to audit.

Hey, y'all - appreciate the enthusiasm, but we can see what's going on here. Feature Request forum comments get sent out to a bunch of people so let's try to keep them substantive whenever possible. I'm not going to stop you from getting students and coworkers to click upvote, but it isn't the same to us as a bunch of votes and comments from a bunch of different schools.
It's important to know that feature requests are primarily evaluated by us on their merits vs how much work they are to implement and if we can schedule people to work on them. The vast majority of completed requests have few votes/comments.
@Cyndi - Re: this request specifically - Are you talking about on a per student basis? It sounds like what you want is:
1) A Max audit courses term setting
and
2) A way to restrict an individual students registration, overriding the term settings
For the latter, I'd probably use a registration lock and require them to register via their advisor to make sure their course load isn't too much.
If this really is requesting two separate registration features, I'd suggest you submit them separately so we can gauge the popularity of each on their own. Additionally, the first one I mentioned is far simpler, and you aren't doing it any favors by tacking on to the second (which, I know, is the first one you wrote about).
The second one is the one I'm more excited about. We limit students on academic probation and students provisionally admitted to a 12-hour course load. It would be nice to have a way to make that more automatic.

This feature request can focus on the discipline limitations...the suggestion to lock/have adivors step in isn't a viable option for us.
@Christopher - That makes sense. Would it work to be able to simply set overrides in Student Info? Tying it to discipline would be a lot more complex, and, I imagine, there could still be cases where you'd want to do it, but there was no discipline involved.
